Singing Youth of Nebraska

SYN is a tremendous experience for students in grades 7, 8, and 9. In January of even-numbered years, an auditioned Honor Choir is held at North Platte High School. During odd-numbered years, a Festival Choir (non-auditioned) is held at six or seven sites around Nebraska in late January or early February.

Sing Around Nebraska

SAN is a powerful choral opportunity for students in grades 4, 5, and 6, which fosters the love of singing! In February of even-numbered years, there is a Festival Choir (non-auditioned) held at 10 or more sites around Nebraska. During the fall of even-numbered years (the fall immediately following the festival), there is an honor choir (auditioned), usually held at a site in Lincoln, NE, for 5th and 6th graders.

NCDA Summer Conference

The 2018 conference is centered around the overall health of our music departments from performance technique to skills being taught directly in the classroom. NCDA holds an annual conference every July at the beautiful campus of Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. During these three to four days, music teachers and choral directors from all over the state gather to share ideas, attend concerts and interest sessions, and renew their passion for choral music with friendship and fellowship.

About NCDA

The Nebraska Choral Directors Association was founded in 1962, just 3 years after our parent organization, the American Choral Directors Association. NCDA is a non-profit professional organization whose membership is composed of choral musicians from schools, colleges, universities, churches, community and professional groups. As a chapter of the national organization NCDA members are among 18,000 directors representing more than one million singers across the United States.

NCDA events and publications provide Nebraska educators with opportunities in the choral field that surpass standard professional development. Members are interacting on Twitter, Facebook, Google and other internet locations. We are truly engaged in 21st Century Learning, sharing innovative ideas and connecting in meaningful ways.

“NCDA is a group of specialists working together to improve the musical education and experience of their singers.  The support and encouragement shared through its members is unmatched anywhere else.” – Jessica Hazelton
